Wednesday in the City

We spent our day in the city on Wednesday. My friend, Sinead, so graciously took Calvin and MaeMae to the pool with her kiddos. She had them all day and we were able to just take Caroline over with us. We left on the 10:30am ferry and had a nice ride across the harbour. It was a gorgeous day and smooth sailing. Once we got to the wharf we searched for the visitor's center. We took the long way around but we finally found it, did a little light shopping in the gift shop and picked up a city map. The cable cars were on our agenda to find as well as lunch. On the way, down Lambton Quay, we found a little upstairs cafe to grab some fish and chips. It was right beside Cable Car Lane and so once we were done we headed over to take a wee ride.

What an amazing view it is at the top of the Botanic Gardens, where the cable car drops off/picks-up. It's a stunning 180 degree view of the harbour and city buildings. From here you can walk downhill through the gardens or hop back on the ferry to go back to town. We didn't have much time so we took our pictures at the top and headed back down and on to the ferry. We hustled to the ferry but had time to spare. It left at 2:15pm instead of 2pm like we thought. Caroline and I thought we needed some dessert so while we were waiting to board the ferry we ran to a cafe and got some banana loaf and a chocolate caramel slice to share. It was a nice ending to our city adventures.

The ride back to Days Bay was not so smooth...quite bumpy, in fact. But we made it back in one piece and had time to run to the 4Square before picking up Calvin and MaeMae from their playdate at Sinead's and Nora's. They had an absolute blast, as did we!

As we waited for the ferry to arrive, this seagull was working on his breakfast. He was flying over and either accidentally or purposefully dropped this oyster on the wharf. It burst open exposing his delicious meal. It was so neat to watch him peck at it and work so hard for his food.

On board the Dominion Post Ferry! It was full on the top deck so we sat on the lower deck, which was nice, quiet and warm.

Riding up the hill on the cable car. The Wellington Cable Car opened in 1902 and they house one of the original cars in the cable car museum at the top of the hill, at the entrance to the Botanic Garden.

2 Beautiful ladies and 1 amazing view! We have had so much fun together, laughing, picking on each other, eating and just hanging out.

Lovely day! After our trip to the big city, we came home and settled in a minute and were off to eat pizza for dinner. We ate at the Days Bay pizzeria and enjoyed every bite! A few games of rummy and a dvd of the Johnny Cash Show made a perfect ending to our fab day. Oh the laughs we have had and the singing we have done! :)
