The Rugby World Cup will be held throughout New Zealand next year and the country is so excited! It's a big ol' deal, as if the Olympics were coming to town. It's only held every 4 years as well so it brings much anticipation. As a special treat for the kids at kindy, they brought in the real, actual Rugby World Cup Trophy! It was really awesome to see it up close and personal and to get Calvin's picture with it. No one is allowed to touch the trophy until the winners of the Final Game. At that point, the winning team receives the trophy, goes through all the formalities of pictures, etc...then promptly takes it out to the pubs. From it, they celebrate their victory by passing the trophy full of ale around to all their mates. Cool tradition, aye?
The All Blacks is the Rugby team of New Zealand and are quite famous. They were the inagural winners of the Rugby World Cup in 1987 and, again, are the hosts in 2011. If you've seen Invictus with Matt Damon and Morgan Freeman, the All Blacks play South Africa in the 1995 World Cup. It's an awesome movie!
I knew there was going to be an All Blacks Day at kindy that day. It rained all night and into the morning but I was determined to get there for Calvin to participate (I thought maybe the All Blacks team would be there but the trophy was just as good) so we wrapped ourselves up and headed out in the rain. We did get a little damp on the way but it was worth it. We won't have to worry about walking in the rain anymore! Ben bought us a 2nd car! I'll do a post just on ol' Cherry Bomb. :)
