Happy 5th Birthday, Calvin!

Oh my goodness, what a sight!
Calvin Wallace is turning FIVE!

Dear Calvin,

We can't believe just 5 years ago you came into this world...3 weeks early! You definitely caught us by surprise. Luckily, daddy was home when my water broke at 4am on 29 September and we went to the hospital shortly after. On the way to the Christ Hospital your daddy and I couldn't believe you were on your way so soon! We were so excited but we still had things to do to get ready for your arrival. In fact, I hadn't even packed a hospital bag for our stay AND your room was a mess since we were having your closet worked on and Mimi and Grandma had to put your room together before we left the hospital. (They did get it ready just in time!)

We finally got to meet you around 8:30pm that evening and you brought tears to all our eyes. You were so quiet and sweet and just felt so at ease. We named you after your Big Papaw, Calvin and daddy chose Wallace. You were such a wonderful baby. You even slept in your own bed the first night you were home from the hospital. You always have liked your own space. But you didn't get it for long for MaeMae was coming right behind you 14 1/2 months later. :) You have shared a room with your sisters from the very beginning and love it.

You are such a big boy and a wonderful big brother. You help your sisters often (when not fighting them, of course) and love to be a helper. You have adjusted so well to New Zealand, your new school and made friends very quickly. Many playdates have made you feel right at home. You've been riding a 2-wheel bike since you were 3 1/2 and have not worn a diaper to bed since we've been in NZ. You love to pick your own clothes out and put them on yourself, most of the time. You play so well by yourself and can spend lots of time building or coloring. You are into legos, cars, trucks, army guys/trucks, drawing, reading books, riding your bike or scooter, hanging things off the staircase (like your daddy used to do when he was your age), you love ropes and tying things together and making forts on the beach. You love to do anything with your daddy. You want to play outside whenever you can and really enjoyed building things at kindie at the construction table. You spent about a month in kindergarten and now are about to begin 1st grade. I think you will love it and learn so much! You have really learned to communicate your feelings and thoughts well. In new settings you are quiet and reserved but once you feel comfortable you are at ease and very sociable.

Happy Birthday, Sugar!
We are so proud of you and we love you so much!
Love, Mama, Daddy, MaeMae and Caroline
