On Wednesday morning we packed up and headed out for a holiday (aka vacation) to Lake Taupo. We rented an awesome kiwi bach (pronounced "batch") from a friend. It had an amazing view of the lake and had rolling farm land on the other. We were neighbors to many sheep and cows and the kids loved hearing and watching them during our stay. The road trip was beautiful and scenic. We resembled the Griswolds going cross-country to Wally World in our 2-car caravan, packed to the gills with stuff and people. Fun times!
Our first stop was a picnic lunch of ham sandwiches, apples and chips.
Funny: Everything uses the metric system so ordering "weighted" items takes some getting used to. My first time ordering at the deli I watched someone else order meat and ordered the same. For our trip, while I was gathering other supplies, dad ordered the ham at the deli and asked for "2". The deli person looked at him like he had two heads so he asked dad if he wanted 1 kilogram and dad said yes. (not really knowing what that was :) 1 kilogram is a TON of meat but it actually worked out perfectly and we had plenty for our long weekend holiday. Good work mate!
After lunch we had a few games of tag. Calvin has been playing lots of tag at school and loves to play anytime he can.
Our lovely picnic site...perfect for the surrounding bushes ;) and large space for running around. Had to get some of that car energy out!
Funny: Dad and Ben rode in the cherry bomb with Calvin and MaeMae while mom rode with me and Caroline. We had a lovely quiet drive in ol' Blue Bell while dad and Ben had to play referee to the kids' constant pestering and picking of each other.
