School Days
We visited the kindergarten (kindie) in Eastbourne, East Harbour Kindergarten on Wednesday and the kids really loved it. They are so ready for some kid-interaction! I got the call Wednesday afternoon and Calvin started school Wednesday and Mary Katherine starts on Thursday. They don't mess around here! :) I was so happy that they were able to get in and get started.
Calvin had his first day and we were able to stay with him for a little while for him to get settled. He did just fine and even asked when we were leaving. He's growing up so fast! He will be in the morning class on Mondays-Fridays from 8:30-12:30 and Mary Katherine will go Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri from 1:30-3:30. It makes it a little difficult for me to juggle them all since we are still riding the bus down to the village but we'll manage. A 2nd car is in the near future, however, for my sanity! :)
The school system is unique as the kids get 20 hours a week of free kindergarten and they start primary school when they turn 5. They don't wait til the school year starts to begin, they jump right into primary (1st grade) as soon as they turn 5 years old. So, Calvin will have about 6 weeks of kindie then go to the "big" school. It's all happening so fast so I haven't had a chance to be sad or worry, as we mothers like to do before a big event in our children's lives. :)
Calvin will start school visits on Thursdays beginning next week to get them used to the system, the bell, etc... It's great because he'll be doing these visits with other kids from the kindie so he'll know some kids when he starts big school. That will be huge for him and make the change much smoother knowing he'll have friends waiting for him.
I wasn't sure what we'd do for school for MaeMae and Calvin but God knew all along and opened spots and made the transition so easy. I figured they could do playgroups or something for the year but now I see that they really need the structure and interaction and am so glad it has worked out so well. We are so unprepared that we don't even have lunchboxes or backpacks for them. That's next on the list!
It will be a great year for both of them and I know they'll make lots of new friends. Plus, it'll be a wonderful time for Caroline to have some more attention. God is good!!
Mary Katherine starts Thursday, Aug. 12 on Mondays, Tuesdays & Thursdays from 1:30-3:30pm. She's so excited! (She'll add Fridays in October for the 4th Term)
Calvin in front of his new (not for long) school. He started on Wed.,Aug. 11 and will go 8:30-12:30, Monday-Friday.
