Summer Holiday

A few pictures over the last few weeks. We've thoroughly enjoyed our summer break. Christmas and New Years was full of family time with dad and lots of wonderful memories. Because the stores were closed much of the holidays, there's not much to do but hang out with the fam at home or the beach. Perfect! No other distractions to pull you in a million different directions.

We're now gearing up for our big trip to Jackson, MS. Ben has a job interview with the University of Mississippi. It'll be an exciting yet long trip but we are looking forward to it! GP, grandma, Mimi and Papaw will be coming to see us as well.

The kids have about 3 weeks left in their summer vacation and it'll be a busy time. Trip to the US, trip to the South Island with our great friends from Cincy, Wolfgang & Missy and lots of beach time in between. It has been just wonderful spending so much time together and relaxing with our friends.

A little light reading before bed. I was reading in bed and Caroline insisted on doing the same. She fell asleep just like this...with visions of success in her dreams. :)

Great friends!
Our great friends, Tanya and her 3 beautiful girls and Tanya's mom, Laila came over for Laila to say good-bye. Laila has been in NZ for a little over a month and left on Wednesday. We so enjoyed getting to know her. She's just lovely and left us with a wonderful cookbook! And, she WROTE the cookbook, full of fabulous Arabic recipes. We can't wait to try them!

Just a swingin'
Last weekend Ben put up a rope swing and the kids have LOVED it!

Breakin' beans
I guess we've been in the "city" too long for the kids have never learned how to break beans! They loved breaking this batch we purchased from the Lower Hutt market on Saturday and ate them up. I can just remember doing this as a child at grandma and pop's house and at my own house growing up. I love sharing these memories with my own children. That's what makes them so special. :)

Caroline just liked to eat them raw.

Christmas extended!
One last Christmas package finally arrived and oh what fun the kids had! This has been the best and longest holiday ever!

Perfect timing...mom and dad were home when we got the package so we could open it with them.

Calvin loved his new outfit from "GP" and grandma that he wore it 4 days in a row.

The motherload of all motherloads! Ramen noodles & KRAFT mac 'n cheese!

Oh a little girl's dream come true...ramen noodles and a dora flashlight. (The flashlight was fun while it lasted - a couple hours - until someone spilt milk on it. :)

I love this shot of MaeMae in her new threads from grandma and grandpa.
"Peace. I'm cool like that. Word."

Sunday at the Market
The Sunday after New Years we headed to our favorite Harbourside Market. It was slim pickins' though with only the veg & fruit vendors...no other specialty vendors were there. Must have still been on holiday. It was a nice time to just grab some veg and fruit and take a little stroll around the harbour.

Feeding the ducks with dad.

Dad firin' up the ol' grill. :) Little sparkler can cook up a mean burger or 2!
Can't beat it for $30.

Just a sweet little picture.

Down by the harbor
Between Lowry Bay and our bay, York Bay, lies a nice car park/boat ramp. It's a great place for climbing, splashing, fishing and fun! Ben got a fishing pole and the kids have enjoyed fishing but were a little disappointed we had no bites the first time we took her for a spin. Next time!

So sweet...daddy and his baby girl.

If there is a rock or a wall to climb, you'll find Calvin scaling it in a heartbeat! And kiwi style no less...barefoot!
