1st Week of School in the New Year

School runs from February - December so we just began a brand new school year. It's so strange to start a new year in February instead of August. I haven't gotten used to the opposite seasons and think it'd take me a long time if we ever lived here permanently. It's just so different! :)

Because it's still summer here, cricket is still on, with probably several more weeks left in the season. What a fun time Calvin has had learning this "unique" sport. It's been a great time for him to get to know other kids at school, as well, so the school doesn't seem so big.

The kids had a great first week of school and I believe I may be more exhausted than they are. Our new schedule is nice but alot of driving back and forth for me and little Caroline. I take Calvin and Mary Katherine to school in the morning, leaving at 8:15am. MaeMae gets dropped off at morning kindy first then we head down to Muritai to drop of CW. Then CB and I head home for a few hours and back out at 12:15 to pick up MaeMae at half past 12. We truck back home until 2:40pm when we leave again from home to pick Calvin up at school. Some days we may stay in town at a friend's for one leg of the school runs but usually we head home to do some chores, etc...

Mary Katherine is enjoying kindy soooo much more now in morning kindy. It is much more structured than afternoon kindy. They have several mat times, including morning tea (morning snack) and eat lunch together. (which means mama fixes 2 lunches in the am now:) She knows most of the kids and seems much happier in this new routine. It also gives me more time to get things done - with a 4 hour window instead of less than 2 hours.

Calvin began in Room 1 with Mrs. Barbara Ryan and had a great first week. They had swimming lessons 4 days last week, which was great exercise but tiring for him. Mrs. Ryan is just as sweet and kind as Mrs. Mills-Smith and it will be a great year. Well, it will be a great 2 terms since we will leave at the end of Term 2 to come back home.

They will both miss the friends they've made here, as will I, but we look forward to returning back to the good ol' U.S. of A.!

Mary Katherine started ballet this week and LOVED it! She was totally in her element with fairy wands, fairy wings and all. She flitted and floated around and really got comfortable in her class, although it was first ballet class ever. It will be a fun term for her as she learns more and more. Gymnastics was fun but she totally was into ballet. She's a natural! :)

Caroline found a wagon and book she wouldn't let go of the entire time. It's funny how they get so attached to things and want to carry them everywhere. It was hard wrangling it out of her hands when it was time to leave.

So precious. So sweet.
